Dyspepsia commonly known as Indigestion is caused by the secretion of digestive juices in the stomach. Usually, it ensues after overeating or intake of fatty or spicy foods. Indigestion is a fully uncomfortable sensation in your belly after or during the meal and it can be produced or made worse due to irritable bowel syndrome, obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stress, anxiety, ulcers, thyroid disease, stomach infection, smoking and certain medications.

Symptoms of Indigestion include:

  • Burning sensation in the upper abdomen
  • Acidic taste and vomiting
  • Growling stomach
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Gas

Here are some ways to get rid of indigestion effectively and immediately.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Though Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature, it has an alkalizing effect also and hence often used to help indigestion. To make a drinkable solution with it, add a tsp of unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey in a glass of water. Mix it well and drink this solution for two to three times in a day to get relief from indigestion.




Ginger is known to be very helpful in treating indigestion as it stimulates the flow of enzymes and digestive juices that help in digestion of your food. You can use ginger in different ways to cure indigestion. Here are some ways.

  • After eating a heavy meal, sprinkle a pinch of salt on some fresh ginger slices and chew them thoroughly.
  • Take two tsp of ginger juice, a pinch of black salt or table salt and one tsp of lemon juice. Mix all of the ingredients well and take the mixture it with or without water.
  • Add one teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of ginger juice to a cup of warm water and drink it. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times a day.


Take hydrochloric acid supplements

Indigestion is mostly caused by overactive stomach acid but sometimes it can also be caused due to insufficient stomach acid and this problem can be solved by intake of HCL acid supplements. Continue the intake of supplements until you feel a warmth in your stomach. A lower dosage of HCL supplements will be enough to treat indigestion.


Take digestive enzymes

These are easily available in a form of supplements in most health and food stores. For each individual enzyme supplement, follow the dosage directions.


Drink Herbal tea

Herbal tea accumulating any of the three magical herbs i-e ginger, peppermint and chamomile work wonderful and astonishing for your stomach problems including indigestion.

You can also try following:

  • Boil some tea with powdered cinnamon to make cinnamon tea.
  • Chamomile is a herb well-known to calm indigestion. Intake a cup of hot chamomile tea and within a couple of minutes, you will feel much relax. It only takes a couple of minutes.
  • Take green tea by adding lemon or honey to add a bit of flavor without increasing your sugar intake.
